WELLNESS FOR WOMEN

Two “Wellness for Women” events were hosted by the St. Clair County Health Department and were supported through a grant by the St. Louis Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.  Rev. Annie Clark gave an invocation before the meals.  The first event was a luncheon held at The Fountains in Fairview Heights on October 21, 2006.  The second event was a breakfast at the Casino Queen Hotel in East St. Louis on October 28, 2006. Speakers at the events included two physicians, a local author that donated her book to each participant, representatives from other Komen funded projects, and breast cancer survivors.  These events were free and included exhibits, health screenings, and attendance prizes.  In addition, Breast and Cervical Cancer Program providers were recognized for their commitment and dedication.  The Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (BCCP) was promoted to enroll women for free screenings.   The “Wellness for Women” events are instrumental in removing barriers, linking women to resources and screenings, and providing motivation toward preventative health care.  Approximately 250 women attended the 2006 events.
