Dr. Willard C. Scrivner

Public Health Foundation

6th Annual

Spring Into Health Dinner

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Health Department and the
15th anniversary of the Scrivner Foundation.
Our keynote speaker was U.S. Rep. Jerry Costello.   Costello served as   County Board Chairman when the Board of Health was formed 25 years ago.

The Spring Into Health Dinner is hosted annually by the Willard C. Scrivner, MD Foundation as just one of its methods of promoting good healthcare in the St. Clair County region. The Foundation was established in 1996 and is named in the honor of the late Dr. Willard S. Scrivner, a long-time public health leader and practicing obstetrician. The Foundation is a not-for-profit, non-partisan organization that works in tandem with the St. Clair County Board of Health as a public/private funding source for public health issues.

U.S. Representative Jerry Costello also presented as the keynote speaker at the third annual Spring Into   Health Dinner on May 11, 2007 at The Fountains by Four Points Sheraton in Fairview Heights.

“Building Healthy Communities” was the topic of Congressman Costello’s address. Accessible and  affordable healthcare is a major issue in our region and the country as a whole. Congressman Costello is  an active proponent of measures that will improve the quality of life for his constituents.

When asked to speak at the annual event, Congressman Costello eagerly agreed to do so, explaining “Dr. Scrivner was well known, not only through his practice, but through his leadership in the promotion of  health care for all.” The Foundation named in his honor is keeping his good work alive through its support of public health programs.

The dinner gave the community the opportunity to hear Congressman Costello’s views on healthier communities and the future of healthcare for all of us. This year the dinner was the forum for awarding the Carolyn N. Chapman Distinguished Service Award, recognizing an individual in our community who has made an outstanding contribution to public health in St. Clair County. The recipient of that award was Al Wunderlich for his work with the Franklin Neighborhood Association.
